AI for the Andes
Application
Workshop Details
- Dates: TBA, late April/early May 2025
- Location: TBA, likely either Medellín or Bogota
- Status: Funding secured, applications not yet open
Target Workshop Participants
- We welcome researchers, scientists, and students actively collecting biodiversity data in the Andes. Strong preference will be given to those collecting data that can be used to train machine learning models.
- Familiarity with Python programming for data analysis.
- Note: If you don't have Python experience, please submit a plan for building these skills before the workshop.
- Demonstrated research interest in:
- Academic research in ecology and conservation, or
- Deployment of technology for conservation impact
- Preferred: Published research in quantitative ecology/conservation or technology deployment experience
- Preference is given to those currently within country, rather than at institutions abroad
- Access to large datasets (image/audio/video) with ecology/conservation questions
- We will assist accepted applicants with dataset curation and labeling for CV/ML models
Diversity Statement
Scientists from communities facing large conservation challenges and from minoritized communities are especially encouraged to apply. Underrepresented groups, especially those from or working with indigenous communities, are especially encouraged to apply.
Costs & Financial Aid
- We will cover the cost of room and board
- Up to $300 for travel costs
